Sunrise on the deck of a Jungle Edge cottage — a boutique hilltop resort in Wayanad

Resorts · Wayanad

Among Wayanad's many resorts, a quieter kind of stay.

Wayanad has no shortage of resorts — some large, some new, some very good. Jungle Edge is deliberately not the biggest option on the map. It's a small, boutique hilltop resort on the edge of the wildlife sanctuary, built for guests who want the region on its own terms rather than a themed-park version of it.

What sets this stay apart

Curated, not commoditised

You book a room; we plan the surrounding stay. Safaris, treks, temple visits and drives — all coordinated.

How to shortlist among Wayanad resorts

Start by dividing the map. Southern Wayanad — Vythiri, Lakkidi, Kalpetta — is where most large resorts sit, and it's the easiest to reach from Kozhikode. Central Wayanad — Meppadi, Bathery — is plantation country and works for Chembra Peak and Edakkal Caves. Northern Wayanad — Mananthavady, Thirunelli, Thalapuzha — is quieter, wilder, and closer to Tholpetty safari and Kuruva Island.

Once you've picked a region, filter by the things that actually change a stay: occupancy density, whether the resort borders forest, how the kitchen is set up, and whether you'll be dealing with a large tour operator or the actual owner.

Why boutique often beats big in Wayanad

The region's landscape is intimate — narrow ridges, small valleys, forest patches. Big resorts have to level land and build density, which works against the setting. Small resorts blend into the terrain and preserve the feeling that drew you here in the first place.

A smaller resort also means fewer people between you and a decision. If you want dinner an hour later, or a picnic packed for a trek, or a driver at 5 AM, one message reaches the person who can do it.

What Jungle Edge does differently

We keep occupancy low, maintain a very short menu that we cook well, and treat trip planning as part of the room rate rather than a paid add-on. The infinity pool is exclusive to in-house guests; the campfire happens every evening the weather allows.

None of this is unique on paper. What tends to be unusual, based on guest feedback, is how consistently these things show up on the same stay.

Getting to Wayanad's northern resorts

The Mananthavady side of Wayanad is easiest to reach from Kannur, not Kozhikode. If you're flying, Kannur airport saves you the Thamarassery ghat road — a stretch of 9 hairpin bends that's memorable but slow.
