Resort Near Banasura Sagar Dam

A quiet boutique base for exploring Banasura Sagar Dam.

Banasura Sagar Dam is one of Wayanad's must-see sights — India's largest earthen dam, ringed by mist and small islands. Jungle Edge is under an hour's drive away, on a quiet ridge outside Mananthavady. It's the boutique base guests choose when they want to see the dam without staying in a busy town.

Why the dam is worth a half-day of your Wayanad trip

Banasura Sagar Dam sits at the base of Banasura Hill, holding back a reservoir dotted with small green islands. The dam wall itself is over two kilometres long and built almost entirely of earth and stone — a rare piece of engineering worth walking end to end for the scale alone.

The real reward is the reservoir. A short boat ride into the water reveals island clusters that look — especially in early light — like something out of a Kerala backwater postcard shifted 900 metres up.

Getting the timing right

The dam attracts busloads on weekends and public holidays. The best times to visit are weekday mornings between October and March. The gates open early; the light on the water between 6:30 and 8:30 AM is worth the alarm.

During peak monsoon (July–September), the flow is dramatic and the surrounding hills are at their greenest — but occasional shutter timings apply depending on water levels. We check current conditions before recommending your window.

Basing in the north vs. staying near the dam

The immediate area around Banasura has limited boutique accommodation. Most quality stays are in the wider Padinjarathara–Mananthavady belt, which is where Jungle Edge sits. This gives you a comfortable resort to return to — with an infinity pool, a full kitchen and forest surroundings — instead of a compromise room close to the dam.

The trade-off is a 45-minute drive each way, which most guests find well worth it once they see the difference in the stay.
